July was a crazy month with the holiday, garden, and travel, so it’s time to take a deep breath and chill. The garden is finally starting to really produce after a cold start to the summer, but my thoughts are already turning to the fall sports season, especially pre-season college volleyball. WRITING I’m still waiting on news on a couple of irons I have in the fire. Hopefully, I’ll have something to share soon. I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. I’ve been enjoying my garden, though it seems to be way behind last year, and all the fun community events happening in our small town. It’s been hot, but I’m not complaining since, in Wyoming, winter is never far away. I hope everyone is enjoying summer. It’s been an odd one for me so far with lots of ups and downs. We’ve had an uncharacteristically rainy start to the season, but it’s been wonderful for my garden which is always a highlight for me. My writing has taken on a more therapeutic role in my life, but it seems to be helping me create some of my best work. It hasn’t been a happy summer overall, but I’m hoping I can turn that around and find some joy in August, and I can end the season on a positive note.    WRITING NOTES AND NEWS As I anxiously await the next steps involved with the early 2024 release of the first novel of the four currently scheduled in my forthcoming new young adult/new adult action-adventure dystopian series, I’ve begun writing the fifth novel. Is Summer Passing you by? In northern Wyoming, it always feels like we have just three months of summer, June, July, and August. Well, it’s August. As far as outdoor activities and gardening are concerned, two-thirds of the season is over, and I don’t know where it went. Due to a cold spring, I planted the garden two weeks later this year than previous years, and all I’ve harvested so far is lettuce. I should be getting some sweat peas later this week, but they are generally on the way out by August. So, if you’re like me and it feels like summer is passing you by, get out and enjoy it while you can. There aren’t any major holidays in August this year, but here are the fun designated days for August. I guess nothing says summer like a toasted marshmallow since it has two designated days. I hope everyone is toasting marshmallows and enjoying summer since it is quickly slipping away. V-J Day (“Victory In Japan Day” or “Victory Over Japan Day”) marks the end of World War II and the cessation of fighting against Japan. On August 14, 1945, the Japanese government notified the U.S. of its surrender. This date is the most modern recognition of V-J Day. On August 15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world which sparked celebrations over the ending of the War. And, on September 2, 1945, a formal surrender ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri, and President Truman declared that day to be V-J Day.   Here are a few lighter dates to recognize in August.
