Adventure Scrapbook – Grand Teton Splendor

There are few places on earth more breathtaking than Grand Teton National Park. I’ve had the privilege of spending a great deal of time in this spectacular location.  I could ramble on for pages, but I think the photograph speaks for itself.

Hooked on Love and Freedom

MFRW Authors Blog

Welcome to this week’s Book Hooks blog hop where you can hop along and read six to eight sentence samples of various authors’ work. Here’s a little teaser from my romantic dystopian suspense novel, Deadly Exodus.

Ethan wrapped his arms around Nyla once he realized it would make too much noise to force her behind him. He eased her back while pushing Jared and Claire further into the shadows and behind some brush along the bank. He knew Nyla was attempting to shield him from being shot if they were seen and the gesture made it impossible for him to think clearly. No one had ever shown him such care and devotion. She was willing to lay down her life for him. He squeezed his eyes shut and held her tight, hoping he could protect her if they were discovered.

Their love is forbidden…their lives in danger…

Trapped in a dystopian America where men are being exterminated and relationships are forbidden, Nyla is determined to change the course of her future and protect Ethan. Fleeing means abandoning her grandmother and imprisoned mother, but Nyla and her friends will do anything to escape an authoritarian government which has stolen their freedom and prohibits personal expression of any kind.

Desperate and dreaming of a new life, the group makes a run for the Mexican border through the inhospitable Big Bend region of Texas. Persistent patrols track and corner them, while a vast and desolate landscape inhabited by brazen predators tests their ability to survive.

Will they live to realize their dreams of a new life and a chance at love?

Summer Lovin’ Blog Hop

It seems like love happens when you’re not looking for it, and the timing couldn’t be worse. Marked In Mexico’s Jessica, hasn’t figured out a way to break it off with the arrogant son of a prominent senator, who happens to be her boss at the law firm where she works. Oh, and did I mention her dad is totally pushing for her to marry the cheating scum? So, what’s a girl to do? Take a vacation with her best friend and try to get her priorities in order, which sounds like a great idea until…

An idyllic Caribbean vacation turns deadly when hostages are taken at one of Mexico’s most popular Mayan ruins. The kidnappers believe the abduction will be a simple way to negotiate the release of a colleague from a Texas prison, but matters become complicated and the stakes much higher when they realize one of their hostages is the daughter of a powerful U.S. Senator and another is an ex-Army Ranger, who has no intention of playing by the rules.

I’ll be giving away a $10 Amazon Gift Card and a set of Embrace Adventure luggage tags to one randomly selected visitor. Just leave a comment on where you consider the best romantic vacation destination to be, along with your email address or Twitter handle (you may need to be following me for this method to work), so that I can contact the winner via email or direct message on Twitter. Comments will be accepted until midnight eastern time on June 23, 2014.

The Bears of Big Horn Storm

In Wyoming, black bear populations are widespread, whereas grizzly habitat is primarily confined to northwestern Wyoming, but as populations increase and habitat decreases bears will expand their territory and reestablish in previous historical ranges or in new habitats. Grizzly bears have not inhabited the Bighorn National Forest since the early 20th century, but for the sake of fiction I have hastened the return of a solitary grizzly to the Big Horn Mountains just as a deadly storm is brewing

Black and grizzly bears can be incorrectly identified if attributes such as size or color are relied upon. For a more accurate identification, it’s important to remember that black bears have no shoulder hump, tall pointed ears and a straight facial profile from nose to ear. Grizzlies have a distinctive shoulder hump, short rounded ears, and its facial profile appears dished in.
Bears play a fairly small role in Big Horn Storm, but added to an already dire and deadly situation, the encounter further degrades the characters ability to survive. The novel is a contemporary western romantic adventure set in rugged mountain country. The story combines a foreign invasion, harrowing horseback escapes, a traumatic accident, and a terrifying bear encounter, along with an attempt to reconcile the past in an action-packed thriller.

Love’s Strong Shelter

Love’s Strong Shelter is the newest release by author, Kevin Mark Smith. Please read on for a peek and his newest Christian Fiction novel.

Evelyn’s alcoholic husband beats her, humiliates her, and treats her like dirt. She put up with his mental and physical abuse for years for the sake of the kids, but after she knocks him unconscious with a whiskey bottle to protect her teenage son, she takes the kids and flees to a women’s shelter. Will she finally free herself from her abuser, or does God have something else in mind?

Nathan struggles with his own demons, too. But when he offers to represent Evelyn in her divorce for free, a strange feeling overcomes him. He knows he can’t see her romantically. It’s unethical for lawyers to date clients, and she’s still a married woman. Yet, something is stirring in his heart. Is it love or something more, something he’s willing to die for?

Divorce is easy… But sometimes God’s plan doesn’t give us an easy way out.

Adventure Scrapbook – Grand Canyon

One of the many glories of Grand Canyon is that it provides any level of adventure you desire.  There are opportunities to run the rapids, ride a mule to the bottom of the canyon, or hike to a remote location for solitude. And, for many, just the opportunity to gaze into its magnificent depths from the rim is adventure enough, and an experience to treasure.
