When June hits, it is officially summer for me even though astronomical summer doesn’t officially begin in the Northern Hemisphere until the summer solstice on June 21, 2026. I’ve already planted my garden which is a little earlier than usual. I hope I wasn’t lulled into a false sense of the season, and we get a late freeze (not unheard of almost any time of the year). So, with the garden planted and the yard in ship shape, it’s time to turn our thoughts to camping and summer fun. I hope your summer is starting out with a bang.    WRITING Marketing The Beartooth Chronicles is an ongoing activity along with looking for ways to keep my backlist out there. I have a couple of potential opportunities hanging out there, but it’s still a little early to provide many details. Stay tuned for more information to come. Welcome to my first newsletter of summer! This is the busiest time of year for me. I’m working on the yard and enjoying being able to finally get outside to recreate. We’ve planted the garden which is something I love tending to and harvesting throughout the summer. On top of the usual spring activities, I’ve released the fourth novel in The Beartooth Chronicles (more on that below). Mostly though, I’m just loving the warm temperatures and watching the landscape transition from winter brown to brilliant shades of green dotted with colorful flowers. I hope everyone has weathered the winter and has fun and exciting plans for the summer. WRITING The fourth novel in The Beartooth Chronicles , Evil Under the Mountain, was released on May 19. I am so excited for this one. Hello Summer! Some days we’re there, some days we aren’t, but we’re close enough to my favorite season to celebrate. I just planted my garden, and the grapes, raspberries, and strawberries are showing robust signs of life. The lawn and trees are green, and the birds have returned from their wintering grounds. Many roads in my neck of the woods close over the winter, but now that the Beartooth Highway and the roads into Yellowstone are finally open, I feel a sense of freedom. WRITING NOTES AND NEWS Refuge from the World (The Beartooth Chronicles, Book 1) was released on March 19. I’ve been busy promoting it, and it’s been so exciting sharing this first book in the series with everyone. Summer is finally here and I couldn’t be happier. I’m enjoying the warmer weather, have planted my garden, and have even taken the adventure van out on its first road-trip of the season to Utah. It was great to visit some of our favorite national parks and discover ones we haven’t seen before. We also found a few state parks and other attractions.   June – It Finally Seems Like Summer I’m always anxious for June. Though I have tried to plant my garden in late-May, it’s really a bad idea in this part of Wyoming. So, when the first of June hits, I’m excited to get everything in the ground. I also tried to go camping a couple times in May this year, and it was really pushing the limits. Both times, overnight lows got down to freezing.   We may still have a few cold days, heck, we’ve even gotten snow on the Fourth of July here before, but generally, when June hits it finally seems like summer. I love June, it feels like the true start to summer. May in Wyoming can still be a bit chilly, and overnight lows can still plummet enough to ruin a young garden. When I looked for major holidays in June, I didn’t find many, so I dug a little deeper for the more obscure. What I found was a very large number of fun, silly, and senseless designated dates. Here’s a sample of what I came across. Compared to some months, there aren’t many notable June dates. But, what June lacks in quantity, it makes up for in significance. Here’s what to commemorate in June. D Day, World War II – June 6 Flag Day – June 14 Father’s Day – June 16 Summer Solstice – June 21

It’s not always about quantity. June doesn’t have as many notable dates as some months, but the ones it does have are significant. June 6 is D Day (World War II), June 14 is Flag Day, June 17 is Father’s Day, and the Summer Solstice occurs on June 21, which for a sun-lover is an exciting date. The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year.
