Lovers of Action Suspense Mysteries

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Reading December 11, 2013 (Amazon) By LAS Reviewer CIA agent Cash Luker leads an international team of agents and scientists in a desperate attempt to stop a terrorist group from getting their hands on a collection of crystals which have the power to destroy the world. Shrouded in Secrets is an action-packed highly suspenseful novel which is nearly impossible to put down. I think what impressed me most about the novel, however, was not the thrilling story, although that is certainly there. The plot takes place in the Bahamas, Arizona, Argentina, Mexico, and Peru. Each of these locations is described in rich detail, drawing the reader right into the mangroves or the Arizona desert. The story is told from multiple perspectives so the author has to be able to transport the reader easily and quickly between some very diverse locations, and overall, these jumps are handle well. In addition, the entire plot line revolves around ancient history, partic...

Stone of Destiny Review

Image
Stone of Destiny by Mary L. Ball, is a heartwarming story of a young woman’s struggle to sort out what is most important in life in order to live a fulfilling and happy life. This is an all too common theme in today’s society, which makes this story especially relatable.    The main character, Taylor, has focused solely on her job. She thought a successful career would be all she needed to live a complete and happy life, until an unexpected event introduces a man who seems perfect, except she fears he might get in the way of her career aspirations. As Taylor embarks on an emotional journey, she begins to question many long-held beliefs. She finds guidance from her grandmother and an unexpected source, a missing family heirloom.    The author did a very good job intertwining the complexities facing Taylor’s future as she tries to balance family, the power of a mysterious stone, and priorities, all while struggling to untangle her feelings for a man, who despi...

Review of Autumn Blessing

Image
After reading the first page of Autumn Blessing by Dvora Waysman I feared this novella was going to be a tear-jerker, but thankfully I was wrong. Autumn Blessing turned out to be an uplifting story about dealing with moving on and trying to find happiness again after the death of a soul mate. I doubt many people could read this book and not find something to relate to in their own lives, whether from direct experience or from witnessing a widowed parent try to cope. This was a great story and not one tear was shed in the reading of this book.   Learn more about Dvora at http://dvorawaysman.com/

Review of The Captive Bird

Image
The Captive Bird by Clair Sanders is an inspirational and romantic story. The author did an exceptional job handling a complex and delicate subject. She crafted an inspirational story of healing and forgiveness, which unfolded against a backdrop of developing romance. The main character drew me in with her courage and strength, making the book difficult to put down in anticipation of a desperately deserved happy ending.    Although this novel is outside my preferred genre of adventure and suspense, it is the second book I’ve read by Claire Sanders, and I look forward to reading more because she’s just that good. Latest Review for Desperate Dreams

5 out of 5 Stars. McMahill takes you on another suspenseful journey This book was very mind provoking, especially with all the headlines today about the government agencies accessing public on-line information and how everyone is feeling the need to install security cameras. Kim exposes us to what our future could come to be, while taking us on a dangerous and suspenseful journey of four friends who want nothing more than to be allowed to enjoy life together. My husband enjoyed this book, too. The only problem with this author is she needs to write more books a little faster. I've now read all her books and need the next one...hurry up. Dreams of Gold

Image
Take one hunky sheriff of the old West’s Wyoming Territory and add a feisty city gal from the East and you have the makings of a truly entertaining and exciting story. This book contained multiple plot elements, and was well developed and written. If I had one complaint, it would be that the story wrapped up too quickly. The sparks between the characters were strong enough to carry the story even further. Overall, Dreams of Gold was a great book and I look forward to reading more works by this author.   For more on Linda Carroll-Bradd visit http://www.lindacarroll-bradd.com

Rescue, Romance, and Adventure

Image
Cairo by Victoria Pitts-Caine is an entertaining story filled with mystery, suspense, and international intrigue. While eluding one dangerous situation after another, solving riddles, and piecing together cryptic clues, the characters are forced to test their faith. If that isn’t enough, a touching romance blossoms between two people from vastly different cultures, which only makes matters much more complicated.   This wonderful novel keeps you turning the pages as the characters embark on a remarkable adventure to rescue loved-ones, and attempt to explore the feelings developing between them.

Homerun Hits it out of the Park

Image
Tis the season for baseball and I’ve been cheering the local college teams on as much as our weird weather will allow.   So, if you’re like me and enjoy reading with the season, such as Christmas stories during the holidays, make sure to pick up a copy of Homerun by Ruth Roberts and get into the spirit. This novella mixes in baseball, just enough sass and spice and ample drama to create a real winner. I’ll give you a little teaser, but I don’t want to spoil the story. Go to Prism Book Group or Amazon to learn more about Ruth and to get your copy now as baseball is getting into full swing.   When the seemingly-spoiled socialite, Cynthiana, and the professional baseball player, Roberto, team up for a fundraiser, sparks fly and they soon discover the electrical charge isn’t caused by animosity, but by mutual attraction.   What starts out as a simple straight-forward romance soon becomes complex when Cynthiana’s father attempts to dictate the course of her future and d...

Heart-Strong Review

Image
Heart-Strong by Bonnie McCune   -   Rachel Kinsey is a hard-working single mother. She’s no glamour queen, but she has a big heart, a strong personality and a wholesome look most men find attractive. Jim Landers thinks he knows what he wants and is in no hurry to make a commitment. In the story Rachel must overcome insecurities derived from past rejection as Jim struggles to put aside his preconceived notions of the perfect woman. Heart-Strong is a touching tale about the trials of finding one’s soul mate in today’s world. I enjoyed the story very much.   The characters were realistically flawed and the storyline was contemporary and relatable. I look forward to reading more of this author’s work.

The Value in Reviews

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who takes the time to write honest reviews and post them to Amazon and other venues. Even if a review is only a sentence long it still provides value to readers and authors. Potential readers get an idea about the readability of the work and if the book might be worth trying. The author is able to garner a general idea of how well received their novel is by looking for patterns in the reviews. I check Amazon fairly often and the reviews for Marked in Mexico continue to trickle in. Of the 34 reviews and counting, 19 readers gave the novel a five-star rating, 12 a four-star rating and three a three-star rating. I’m absolutely thrilled with the five-star ratings and I’m very happy with the fours.   Most importantly, what these numbers tell me is that the majority of those who read and reviewed my book enjoyed the story. So, please keep reading and reviewing. With the millions of books available your opinion is more valuable than ever. ...

Three Gifts

Image
Three Gifts by Claire Sanders is not only a great holiday read, but this inspirational novella has particular relevance during these difficult economic times our country is facing.   The main characters, Molly and Jack, seem like a perfect couple, completely in love, dedicated to family and sharing common goals and beliefs.   So what could be holding up a long-awaited wedding?   Jack wants to start his life with Molly on solid financial ground, but even with a college degree finding a good-paying job is proving elusive. He is also driven by the need to care for his grandmother, who raised him after the death of his parents, making relocation a less than attractive option. On the cusp of losing the love of his life, Jack receives three Christmas gifts which open his eyes and his heart to the blessings of true love. Three Gifts is a heartwarming story of hope, love, and keeping one’s faith when facing the inevitable curveballs life throws.

Great New Children's Book

Image
I haven’t done a lot of book reviewing, but I thought I’d give it a shot. When I saw the cover for Brenna and the Horses of Lusayana , it caught my attention, reminding me of my great aunt’s art work, and I was further interested when I learned the author, Lee Landes, was a continent away in the United Kingdom.    I was a little hesitant when I realized that Brenna and the Horses of Lusayana was a children’s book, thinking the plot would be overly simple. Not the case, in fact this book requires the reader’s full attention as the main character, a twelve-year old girl named Brenna, is drawn into a complex quest to learn about her past in the hopes of breaking a centuries-old family curse and saving her mother’s life.    The story is a fantasy set in a rugged coastal landscape in the United Kingdom where Brenna is guided through a treacherous journey by the mystical White Horses of Lusayana. Throughout this amazing adventure she unlocks the family secret...
