Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day to our friends to the north. Canada Day is celebrated every July 1 (unless it falls on a Sunday and then it’s celebrated the next day). Canada became self-governing on July 1, 1867. Canada Day, originally known as Dominion Day, celebrates Canadian nationalism, heritage, and pride.

July 1 is also Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day and International Joke Day, so there are many reasons to celebrate., even if you’re not Canadian.

Teaser Tuesday - A Double Dose of Danger

This teaser Tuesday, I’m giving everyone one a double dose of danger with A Dose of Danger, book 1 in the Risky Research series, and book 2 in the series, A Taste of Tragedy. Though not the main character in A Dose of Danger, Devyn Nash, a socially-challenged FBI agent. and her partner Nick Melonis, play a more prominent role in A Taste of Tragedy, so I thought there was no better time to introduce this dynamic duo than on teaser Tuesday.
Excerpt from A Dose of Danger
Neither spoke as they navigated the lane. Devyn wasn’t used to driving in so much snow, so she focused on making sure they didn’t get stuck rather than speculating on what they would see once they crested the incline.

“Holy crap!” Nick gasped.

Devyn could think of no more appropriate response as she took in three sheriff’s department vehicles, the burnt-out shell of what she assumed must be the white Suburban they had been tracking, another truck with an empty snowmobile trailer, an upside down snowmobile just off the end of the porch, boarded up windows all across the front of the house, and four body bags lined up in a morbid row.

As she got out of the vehicle and stretched, she spotted Gage Harris approaching. Memories flooded through her as she watched his long, purposeful stride quickly close the distance between them. The heavy coat made his already broad shoulders seem out of proportion with his lean, long legs. He always looked so masculine, strong, and sure of himself that it took a bit of an effort whenever she was around him to maintain the aloof demeanor she was known for, and avoid behaving like a teenage girl at a high school pep rally fawning over the quarterback.

“Devyn, good to see you, but I’m sorry to report you’re a little late for the party,” Gage stated with a crooked little smile on his face as he took her outstretched hand.

His familiar deep voice, which had haunted many of her dreams, made her heart skip a beat. Quickly regaining her composure, she took his hand and gave it a firm shake. Then she turned away from his warm smile and mischievous gaze which always made her feel a little weak in the knees.

“Hopefully not too late for a friendly interview. Is this everyone?” She motioned to the bodies on the ground. “Or did you save some for me?”

Excerpt from A Taste of Tragedy
“Here, let me help you,” Morgan said as she draped Devyn’s arm around her shoulders.
Morgan tried to relieve as much weight as she could from Devyn as she helped her hobble to the waiting vehicle. Once Devyn was seated in the cramped back seat, Morgan dug out her emergency supply bag. She handed Devyn a blanket and a bottle of water. “I have a first aid kit, but I think you need something a little more than a bandage.”
“It’s just a few scratches. I’ll live.”
Morgan could see why Nick trusted Devyn with his back. As she looked at the battered and bruised woman, who had taken off into the desert in the middle of the night in bare feet to prevent a criminal from getting away, she had to admire her. Devyn had to be in extreme pain, yet not a complaint escaped her lips.
“Make room in the back,” Nick huffed.
Morgan looked up to see Nick trudging toward her with an inert man slung over his shoulder. She raced to the tiny back cargo area and moved a few items around so Nick could squeeze the body in the vehicle.
“Is he dead?” Morgan whispered.
“Not quite, but we need to get him medical help A.S.A.P. The bullet didn’t hit any vital organs, but I’m not sure how much damage he suffered from the knock to the head”
Morgan watched as Nick set the man down in the vehicle, and then she joined Devyn in the back seat. Turning around and kneeling, she was able to lean over the seat and assess his injuries. She folded up a handkerchief and placed it over the gunshot wound and applied pressure. She wasn’t sure which was bleeding more, the bullet hole or the bump and cut to the head, but she had to try and slow the blood loss any way she could.
“That’s all we can do for now,” Nick said. “Just keep the pressure on the best you can.”
Morgan nodded as Nick secured the back and then got behind the wheel.
“You okay?” Nick asked as he turned to face Devyn.
“I’ve had better days, but sadly, I’ve had worse.”

Romanian Author Publishes Paranormal Romance

I’m pleased to introduce Carmen Stefanescu and her new paranormal romance, Till Life Do Us Part.

Carmen resides in Romania, the native country of the infamous vampire Count Dracula, but where, for about 50 years of communist dictatorship, just speaking about God, faith, reincarnation or paranormal phenomena could have led someone to great trouble - the psychiatric hospital if not to prison. Teacher of English and German in her native country, and mother of two daughters, Carmen survived the grim years of oppression, by escaping in a parallel world of books.

Several of her poems were successfully published in a collection of Contemporary English Poems, Muse Whispers vol.1 and Muse Whispers vol.2 by Midnight Edition Publication, in 2001 and 2002. Her first novel, Shadows of the Past, was released in 2012 by Wild Child Publishing, USA. Carmen joined the volunteer staff at Marketing For Romance Writers Author blog and is the coordinator of #Thursday13 posts.

He latest novel,Till Life Do Us Part, was published by Solstice Publishing, and released June 9, 2016. If you enjoy paranormal romance, mystery, suspense or reincarnation, continue reading to learn more about this intriguing novel.

Barbara Heyer can hear voices of dead people. They whisper of their deaths, seek comfort for those left behind, and occasionally even warn her about future events. But when Barbara’s brother, Colin, is accused of murder, it will take more than her gift to prove his innocence.

Becoming smitten with the handsome investigator, Detective Patrick Fischer, is a serious complication given his assignment to her brother’s case. Barbara senses there is something far deeper—and perhaps much older—than the surface attraction between them. Could that be why she’s visited by a mysterious woman named Emma in her dreams? Could past life regression tie all the seemingly unconnected events together?

Barbara and Patrick must overcome heartache to find the truth to save Colin, and perhaps themselves.

Patrick poured the bubbly liquid into the glasses. He offered one to Barbara and raised his.

“To the undercover, paranormal investigator, Barbara.” He smiled and touched his glass to hers, looking straight into her eyes.

“To you, too, Patrick, Detective Fischer. If it hadn’t been for your determination to find out the truth, many families wouldn’t have had the small consolation to see their relatives’ murderers behind bars.” She took a sip of the champagne.

“There’s something else I’d like to tell you, Patrick said. He cleared his throat and took one of her hands in his. “It’s something that I wanted to tell you... to
ask you for a while, but it never seemed the right moment.”

She heard the tremor in his voice and was sure what was to come. Yet, she didn’t want to make it easier for him. She saw it in his eyes, felt it in the touch of his hands. He was in love with her as she was with him.

“So, as I was saying... I want to ask you if—”

The telephone rang again, cutting like a steel blade through the thick emotional atmosphere surrounding them.

“Oh, not again.” Barbara rolled her eyes upward and headed to the bloody thing. She picked up the receiver and said in a voice that sounded a bit irritated, “Yes. What? Who? Yes, one moment, please.” She turned to Patrick,

“It’s for you. An emergency, it seems.”

Patrick grabbed the phone, “Yes, Fisher here. What? When? I’m on my way,” he said and put down the receiver.

“I’m sorry, Barbara. There’s an emergency, indeed. Bruce has been injured. He’s in the hospital right now.”

“Oh, goodness. Is it bad?”

“I’ve no idea. They didn’t say. I’m going there. Sorry I spoiled the evening.”

“No need for apology, Patrick,” Barbara replied hiding her disappointment.

“Duty comes first in your job, I know.”

“I’ll call you. Soon. There was something important I wanted to tell... to ask you. Goodnight, Barbara,” he said and kissed her hand affectionately. He hurried outside.

Barbara stood in the middle of the room. It looked empty and cold without him. She took the bottle of champagne, pushed the cork back into it, then went to the kitchen and put it in the fridge.

Moments later, she returned to the living room. With a reflexive gesture she picked up the packet of cigarettes Patrick had forgotten on the table. She weighed them in her hand for a moment and smiling, opened a drawer of the bookshelf and placed the cigarettes inside. She took her book from the bookshelf and sat on the couch, enveloped by the faint smell of aftershave left behind by Patrick.

Jack stretched, then came to Barbara and curled up in her lap.

“Yes, Jack. It is like that. It’s always been like that. Just you and me.” She sighed and opened the book. She failed to notice a faint light hovering outside
the window.

Adventure Inspirations - Travel Opens Doors and Minds

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

Adventure Inspirations – Newer and Richer Experience

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste it, to experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”

- Eleanor Roosevelt"

Teaser Tuesday - A Wee Taste of Tragedy

For your enjoyment on this Teaser Tuesday, I’ve prepared a wee Taste of Tragedy. I hope it whets your appetite for more. It you’ve got the blues, the cure may be as simple as A Dose of Danger, book #1 in the Risky Research series.
By the time Nick ended the call from Agent Tanner, he was wide awake. He pulled on his blue jeans and snugged his belt around his waist. Grabbing his shirt and slipping his arms through the sleeves, he made his way to Morgan’s room. He watched her sleep for a moment, hesitant to wake her since they had only gotten to bed a little over three hours ago.
She’s so beautiful and I miss her every day. Why couldn’t we make it work? he thought as he gently retrieved the photograph resting on her chest under folded arms. Turning the frame over, he knew he wasn’t the only one full of regrets. The photo was of his and Morgan’s wedding. He set the picture on the nightstand, leaned over, and placed a gentle kiss on her lips.
Her eyes fluttered open. “What is it, Nick? Is something wrong?”
“I need to leave now. I’ll wake Devyn and brief both of you then.” Nick continued to watch her with hunger in his eyes as she climbed groggily out of bed. The short silk nightie she wore was more than he could resist. He stepped toward her and pulled her into his embrace. “Why can’t I let you go and move on?”
“Because it wasn’t time to give up,” she replied.

Adventure Scrapbook – Bison, Bears, and Bubbling Water

I never get tired of exploring Yellowstone National Park. On the way to Mammoth through the Lamar Valley I was treated to countless bison with hundreds of young calves, deer, elk, and two black bears. The weather was beautiful, which made the day nearly perfect.

June Trivia

A few lesser known claims to June fame include its designation as aquarium month and the fight of the filthy fly month. June’s flower is the rose and its birthstones are Opal, Moonstone, and Alexandrite, which represent health and longevity. Of more prominent note are its holidays and events.

June 6 – Ramadan Begins
June 14 – Flag Day
June 19 – Father’s Day  - don’t forget this one!
June 20 – the Summer Solstice (the longest day of the year)

Adventure Scrapbook – Spring is Holding on Tight

The mountains surrounding Sunlight Basin in northern Wyoming confirm that summer is still a ways off and spring runoff has yet to reach its peak. This is definitely my favorite time of year in this area.
