Exploring my backlist - A Dose of Danger

Image
This week’s novel from my back list is A Dose of Danger. It’s the first novel in the Risky Research series. Each novel dives into the underbelly of the immensely lucrative diet and nutrition industries, a topic nearly every person in America has some experience with. Fast-paced, suspenseful, and laced with romance, A Dose of Danger delivers a gripping blend of danger, deception, and desire. A series trailer was made for the first three novels and can be viewed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clZIRJ1s-Fo&feature=youtu.be. This novel is available at all the major online book sellers including here on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Dose-Danger-Risky-Research-Book-ebook/dp/B07PYPQ9T5/ ).  Here’s more on the story. When researcher Grace Talbot stumbles onto what could be the breakthrough weight-loss discovery of the century, she expects scientific debate—not deadly pursuit. But the diet industry is worth billions, and powerful players will stop at nothing to con...

A Dose of Danger Excerpt (#RiskyResearch - Book 1)

Image
Here is an excerpt from the first novel in the Risky Research Series, A Dose of Danger. It is available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook formats from most on-line book retailers or the paperback can be ordered from your favorite bookstore. Here is the Amazon link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PYPQ9T5/   The unmistakable haze of smoke filled the valley below. Snow covered the ground and weighed heavily on the pine boughs lining the highway, ruling out a forest fire as the source of the dark billows. The old rancher rolled down his window, despite the bitter cold, and inhaled deeply. The air smelled of fire, destruction, and death.   With the last switchback navigated, he shifted up and pressed the accelerator down as far as he dared while driving on icy roads. He tried not to let his imagination get the best of him, but couldn’t help but fear the worst. Someone, maybe even him, was suffering a loss. As he approached the turnoff to his ranch, he realized immediat...

Monday Memes - Remote Wyoming Roads in a Blizzard

Image
Here’s this Monday’s meme from the first novel in the Risky Research Series, A Dose of Danger. Enjoy!

Monday Memes - Charred Timbers

Image
I’ve designed a number of memes for most of my books and decided I should try and share those a little more regularly. So, when I can fit them in, I’ll post a “Monday Meme.” I hope I haven’t already posted too many of these. If a few repeats find their way in, sorry. This first one is from the first novel in the Risky Research Series, A Dose of Danger.

Inspiration Behind the Setting

Image
I recently found myself in the area where I based my fictional ranch from A Dose of Danger . It was a pretty nice day for March (in the mid 30-degree range) and I was out cross-country skiing up the road a bit, but hopefully the photo will still give readers an idea of just how unforgiving the setting in the novel can be. The novel takes place in February during a particularly bad winter. If you haven’t read a Dose of Danger, which is the first in the Risky Research Series, it is available through Kindle Unlimited so there is no risk to try it. There are two others and a free prequel novelette currently available, and the fourth in the series is under contract. I’ll keep everyone posted on its status.

Reality in Fiction – Mountain Snow

Image
Another adventure that has made it into a novel was an early Christmas morning drive into the mountains during a heavy snowfall around thirty years ago. My husband and I were still newlyweds and were trying hard not to disappoint either family, so we participated in my family’s traditional Christmas Eve Mexican Fiesta, and agreed to join his family at a cabin in the mountains of northern Wyoming in time to open gifts on Christmas morning.  We barely made it out of my parent’s place as the snow drifted in the lane, which should have been our first clue to abandon the expedition, but we were young, fearless, and accustomed to driving in bad weather. Heading out of town we quickly found ourselves ahead of the snowplows. After turning off the main highway the roads got progressively worse until we were driving through powder halfway up the grill of our four-wheel drive pick-up. The blowing snow froze to the windshield faster than the wipers could clean the glass, forcing my husba...

Risky Research Series

Image
The third novel in my Risky  Research  series, A Foundation of Fear , is in the editing phase and I don't have a release date yet. In this novel we'll learn that even the most deadly assassin has plenty to fear. If you haven’t read the first two books in the series I hope you will do so before the third is released. The Risky Research series explores how far a deadly group will go to control a diet product industry worth billions, and the lengths two dedicated FBI agents will go to stop them. The first in the series, A Dose of Danger , is set mostly where I grew up in Wyoming. The story begins when a researcher and her team discover a possible solution for weight loss. Her unsanctioned testing methods bring tragedy to the family ranch and the attention of the local sheriff’s deputy. With her colleagues either dead, missing, or on the run she must trust the deputy with her life, but can she trust him with her heart. In the second book, A Taste of Tragedy , a corporate e...

Hooked on a Taste of Tragedy at #MFRWHooks

On the last Book Hooks blog hop I participated in a couple weeks ago I provided a short excerpt and blurb from the first novel in the Risky Research Series, A Dose of Danger (scroll down a few posts to view). This week I’ll offer up A Taste of Tragedy , book two in the series. Book three, A Foundation of Fear , is in editing and the release date will be announced soon. Hope you enjoy this little taste of action. Excerpt Devyn scrambled out of the gully and cut across the raised ground above the bend in the creek. Inching out toward the edge, she peered over and spotted her target. His back was to her. She had a clean shot, but this time she was determined to get answers. Dead men couldn’t talk. She quietly set her gun on a rock, where she knew she could find it quickly. Stepping closer, she leapt. Blurb Morgan Hunter sacrificed everything for her career. She had yet to encounter anything she wasn’t willing to do to succeed...until now. When she uncovers evidence that the he...

Prairie Dogs or Cold-Blooded Killers

Image
Special Agent Devyn Nash wished Coterie was a group of prairie dogs occupying a communal burrow rather than a ruthless organization with the common mission of controlling a diet product industry worth billions. How far will this organization go and can anyone stop them? Find out in the Risky Research Series. The first novel in the series, A Dose of Danger , is set mostly where I grew up in Wyoming. A researcher and her team discover a possible solution for weight loss; however, her unsanctioned testing methods bring tragedy to the family ranch and the attention of the local sheriff’s deputy and the FBI. With her colleagues either dead, missing, or on the run she must trust the deputy with her life, but can she trust him with her heart. In the second book, A Taste of Tragedy , a corporate executive discovers the healthy foods she’s been hired to promote may be dangerous placing her in the crosshairs of an organization that will stop at nothing to protect its secrets. With n...

Third Novel in Series Complete

I’ve just finished the third novel in my Risky Research series, A Foundation of Fear , where even the most deadly assassin has plenty to fear. If you haven’t read the first two books in the series I hope you will do so before the third is released. The Risky Research series explores how far a deadly group will go to control the 40-100 billion-dollar-a-year diet product industry, and the lengths two dedicated FBI agents will go to stop them.  The first in the series, A Dose of Danger , is set mostly where I grew up in Wyoming. Teaser Tuesday - Risky Research Book 1

Teaser Tuesday - Risky Blizzard

Grace Talbot gripped the steering wheel of her white four-wheel-drive truck. Every muscle in her body tensed as she leaned closer to the windshield, straining her eyes, searching the blowing snow for the reflector poles, which lined the road, or for any tire track, which would indicate someone else had driven through recently. Traveling the remote rural Wyoming road in a blizzard was risky, and she would have avoided such a stupid act if her Uncle Moss wasn’t in the hospital fighting for his life  and Butch, his only hired ranch hand, wasn’t dead. Teaser Tuesday - Nice Muscles

“You already have more than a full-time career. This situation will most likely be long-term, so I need to get into a rhythm with the chores and my job, and not get too dependent upon your kindness and nice muscles,” she added with a shy smile.  “So you like my muscles?” “Don’t let it go to your head, Deputy. Remember I work with a bunch of researchers, PhDs, and marketing executives.” He laughed as he turned and walked out the door. Grace stood on the porch and watched until the truck’s taillights disappeared over the rise. Just my luck, I may have met “Mr. Right,” and the timing couldn’t be more wrong. National Boredom Month

July is not only National Hot Dog Month, it’s also National Anti-Boredom Month. Fortunately there is no need to worry because I have a prescription for boredom, A Dose of Danger, and if mystery meat isn’t your thing try  A Taste of Tragedy . Glad I could help. Happy July!

Teaser Tuesday - A Double Dose of Danger

This teaser Tuesday, I’m giving everyone one a double dose of danger with A Dose of Danger , book 1 in the Risky Research series, and book 2 in the series, A Taste of Tragedy . Though not the main character in A Dose of Danger , Devyn Nash, a socially-challenged FBI agent. and her partner Nick Melonis, play a more prominent role in A Taste of Tragedy , so I thought there was no better time to introduce this dynamic duo than on teaser Tuesday. Excerpt from A Dose of Danger Neither spoke as they navigated the lane. Devyn wasn’t used to driving in so much snow, so she focused on making sure they didn’t get stuck rather than speculating on what they would see once they crested the incline. “Holy crap!” Nick gasped. Devyn could think of no more appropriate response as she took in three sheriff’s department vehicles, the burnt-out shell of what she assumed must be the white Suburban they had been tracking, another truck with an empty snowmobile trailer, an upside down snowmobil...

Teaser Tuesday - A Wee Taste of Tragedy

For your enjoyment on this Teaser Tuesday, I’ve prepared a wee Taste of Tragedy . I hope it whets your appetite for more. It you’ve got the blues, the cure may be as simple as A Dose of Danger, book #1 in the Risky Research series. By the time Nick ended the call from Agent Tanner, he was wide awake. He pulled on his blue jeans and snugged his belt around his waist. Grabbing his shirt and slipping his arms through the sleeves, he made his way to Morgan’s room. He watched her sleep for a moment, hesitant to wake her since they had only gotten to bed a little over three hours ago. She’s so beautiful and I miss her every day. Why couldn’t we make it work? he thought as he gently retrieved the photograph resting on her chest under folded arms. Turning the frame over, he knew he wasn’t the only one full of regrets. The photo was of his and Morgan’s wedding. He set the picture on the nightstand, leaned over, and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. Her eyes fluttered open. “What is it, ...
