June Days of Significance

Image
It’s not always about quantity. June doesn’t have as many notable dates as some months, but the ones it does have are significant. June 6 is D Day (World War II), June 14 is Flag Day, June 17 is Father’s Day, and the Summer Solstice occurs on June 21, which for a sun-lover is an exciting date. The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year.

#Memorial Day Wishes

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. It was changed to Memorial Day in 1882. The roots of Memorial Day observance go back to 1865 and the end of the Civil War. Memorial Day is officially celebrated on the last Monday of May each year. This day is dedicated to service men and women who are currently serving or who have given their lives for freedom and country. It is also a time to remember loved ones who have passed away. I hope you take the time to remember loved ones lost and the service men and women who secure our freedom. I also hope you can share this day surrounded with friends and family. Have a wonderful and safe Memorial Day

Adventure Scrapbook – A Solution for Solitude

Image
Mojave National Preserve is located in Southern California between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Stunning natural features abound in this 1.6-million-acre park, including rugged mountains and canyons, singing sand dunes, volcanic cinder cones, and Joshua tree forests. Remnants of its human history dot the landscape and tell an interesting story through long-abandoned mines, homesteads, and rock-walled military outposts. I was pleasantly surprised by the diverse landscapes, but I was even more impressed by the solitude. Maybe I visited during a particularly slow time, but it was a rare treat to find so few people in a National Park Service unit, many of which are being loved to death. If you’re looking for a quiet place to get away from the noise of the cities, immerse yourself in the world's largest concentration of Joshua trees and marvel at the stark beauty of the Mojave Desert.
