Adventure Inspirations – The Fresh, The Freedom, The Farness

“The summer no sweeter than ever,
The sunshiny woods all a thrill;

The grayling asleep in the river,

The big horn sheep on the hill.

The strong life that never knows harness,
The wilds where the caribou call;
The fresh, the freedom, the farness—
Oh God! How I’m stuck on it all.”

Knight of Dreams

I’m pleased to introduce Sharon McGregor. Sharon is a prairie girl who has been working her way west to escape the cold. She now lives on beautiful Vancouver Island. She hasn't escaped her roots, though, as her romances are set in small town North America. When not writing or reading, she operates a shave ice concession with her daughter and follows her grandchildren's athletic endeavors. She has a constant battle with her cat Zoey for control of her computer keyboard. Sharon loves to write romance, mystery and humor, if possible all three at the same time.
Fiona's Knight of Dreams is Sharon’s latest release. We thought we’d try something a little different and do a character interview so the reader can get to know the entertaining heroine, Fiona.
Interviewer:  Fiona, we're so glad you could stop in for a visit today to talk about what it was like to live in Timber in 1947. Would you like a cold drink? Maybe some iced tea?
Fiona (with a slight shudder): Anything but that. The last time I tried iced tea, it ended in disaster. I'm still trying to live it down.
Interviewer: We'll settle for cola then. How is your job going as Timber librarian?
Fiona: Part time librarian. Miss McPherson hasn't totally retired yet so I only work three days a week. It's a nice job and I love being around books. I just don't know if it has a future for me. Sighs. I'm still waiting for my knight in shining armour to ride up, throw me in front of his pommel, and take me away to a world of adventure, but all I do is read about it.
Interviewer: What sort of books do you like reading?
Fiona:  Romances, biographies and mysteries of course. I love the Perry Mason stories. I actually found a mystery in a library book this week. I should say we did. Charles, er Reverend. Redpath, and I are trying to solve the mystery, but I'd love to show him up and find the answer before he does.
Interviewer: Don't you like Reverend Redpath?
Fiona: Oh it's not that. He's quite nice really, for a minister. He has lovely brown eyes and this way of looking at you....
Interviewer: So, do you plan to stay a librarian?
Fiona:  Probably. I can't think of anything I'd rather do. If I tried to be a nurse, I'd probably kill half my patients, I'm so accident prone. And teaching?  My friend Katy is going to Normal School to be a teacher but I could never do that.  I guess I'll just remain where I am.
Interviewer: I bet your mother is hoping you'll get married and give her grandchildren.
Fiona:  I'm afraid she does. But Bertie my brother is going to get married and he can be the one to give her grandchildren. I want to live a life of adventure and romance. Of course, my friends are starting families now. Jill has a baby and Diane is getting married this summer. But that's not for me.
Interviewer: What about this Reverend Redpath you've been talking about? Is he married?
Fiona:  No. But it won't take the church ladies long to find a wife for him. Everyone with an unmarried daughter keeps inviting him for cream teas. I don't think he'll be able to hold out much longer. She sighs again.
Interviewer: You look as though that depresses you.
Fiona:  Of course not! It's nothing to do with me. It's just that he's so different from all the other ministers I've known.  He doesn't seem to mind that I'm such a klutz and that I've wrecked the parsonage flowers, and nearly burned the church kitchen down and...well, you know.. And he makes me laugh. We had a picnic together last week... Sorry. I shouldn't be talking about him. It's time to go. Thanks for the cola.
Interviewer: Goodbye Fiona. Good luck with your mystery.
Now that you know Fiona, here’s a short blurb, and links to learn more about Sharon and her other work.
The good ladies of 1947 Timber are ready to find a wife for their new single minister.  Charles has ideas of his own when he meets Fiona, the lovely accident-prone and outspoken part-time librarian. Fiona, on the other hand, is holding out for a knight on a white charger to carry her away from her humdrum small town life. Fiona and Charles are thrown together as they begin to solve an old mystery which has turned up in a library book. Will Fiona's white knight ever show up to sweep her away? Will Charles ever run out of invitations for cream cakes and lemon slice? Fiona might just discover the sound of hoof-beats when she least expects it.

Coterie Defined

According to, coterie can be a group of people who associate closely, an exclusive group or clique, or a group of prairie dogs occupying a communal burrow. Merriam-Webster online defines it as an intimate and often exclusive group of persons with a unifying common interest or purpose.  But, none of these sources state that the shared interests must be benevolent, good, or established for the betterment of humankind. In some instances the unifying common purpose can be downright deadly…Who or what is Coterie? Find out in A Dose Of Danger.

Sarah's Back

I’d like to welcome Gay N. Lewis to my blog today. Gay is the author of the fun and entertaining “Sarah” series about a dyslexic angel charged with making love connections on earth. Gay’s here today to talk about the newest in the series, Sarah and a Midnight Cruise to Catalina. So, without further ado…
Would you share a little about Sarah and a Midnight Cruise to Catalina with us?
Sarah must take a cruise with Carolyn Baker to Catalina Island. Sarah’s terrified of water, so this is a concern. An evil angel is also on board, and his assignment is to keep Heaven’s Little Love Angel from uniting Carolyn with the right man. Tomas, the Warrior Angel is also on board, but he is acting as guardian to Carolyn and can’t help Sarah. When Sarah is lured to Cloud Nine by Talen, the wicked angel, Tomas rescues Sarah in a clash on Cloud Nine.
Sarah makes readers laugh out loud.  We follow her through one blooper after another. Even Mother Goodness can’t keep the pint-sized being from disasters caused by her inappropriate choices for human disguises and her love for outrageous footwear.
What was your inspiration for this book?
Like most authors, I’ve always wanted to write. After I retired from the interior design field, I carved my first story—a historical, women’s fiction based on a true incident. Maybe with a rewrite, it will see print one day. The second book, a sequel, went nowhere.  Along the way, I joined Romance Writers of America.  Through this group, I met many diverse authors. Some were gigantic sellers of paranormal literature.  With no knowledge of vampires or werewolves, and no desire to learn about them, I decided to write a fantasy about a dyslexic angel. I prefer uplifting, happy stories, and a well-intentioned goof-ball of a heaven sent spirit hit the spot.  Through Sarah, I can also write nuggets about faith and Christianity.  I thank God He gave me Sarah.  I also thank Him for my enormous sense of humor. I’ve enjoyed using it with Sarah.
What sort of hindrances does Sarah face on this mission?
For the first time ever, she must deal with a wicked spirit by the name of Talen. Talen is sent by his boss from the under-world, and his mission is to keep Carolyn from uniting with the correct man.  Talen tricks Sarah into leaving her charge and tries to destroy her on Cloud Nine. Tomas, the Warrior Angel, comes to Sarah’s rescue.
I enjoyed writing this Sarah book.  I used many of my own experiences from the cruise I took alone.  I hope readers will like it as well.

I’d like to thank Gay for joining us today on my blog and I hope you’ll check out her latest novel along with the rest of the Sarah series.  Keep reading for a short blurb for Sarah and a Midnight Cruise to Catalina Island, and for more on Gay. She can fly but can she swim? Dyslexic and bumbling angel, Sarah, comes to earth to unite Carolyn with a mate. Poopty doopty! She must do it on a ship while Carolyn cruises to Catalina Island. Sarah fears falling into the ocean, and she’s horrified soggy wings will drown her.  On this mission, Talen, an evil spirit is assigned to thwart Heaven’s Little Love Angel’s efforts. Tomas, the Warrior Angel, must protect Sarah. Can Tomas succeed without Sarah goofing up the war between the holy and unholy spirits? Will Talen succeed in spoiling Carolyn’s romance?
Gay N. Lewis has a background in video production and interior design. Her credits include Psalms from the Mountains, The Canadian Rockies and Many Churches, One Vision.  As a pastor’s wife and Adult Bible Study Leader, she has written numerous church programs and newsletters. She lives in Fulshear, TX, a small town west of Houston.

Adventure Inspirations – John Muir on Nature

“Camp out among the grass and gentians of glacier meadows, in craggy garden nooks full of Nature’s darlings. Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.”

A Sneak Peek at Danger

Welcome to Sneak Peek Sunday for June 14, where authors post six paragraphs, no more, no less, from one of their novels, and provide links to other blogs so readers can hop around and discover new and exciting books and authors. Here’s a sneak peek into my newest novel, ADose Of Danger, which was just released May 29. To download your copy from Amazon, click here. I hope you enjoy this peek into my new novel, and for the latest updates, please follow me on twitter at

By the time Logan hung up, the tears were gone. Hearing Moss treating the big, strong deputy like a child made her smile. She missed her uncle so much it hurt. Even in a hospital bed hundreds of miles away, he was still trying to take care of her.

“What would you be happy to do for Uncle Moss?”

“This,” he replied as he pulled her into his arms and kissed her. His lips moved slowly over hers until he felt her arms slide up around his neck. He deepened the kiss, and her response sent fire through his body. Even without his heavy coat on, he knew he would be burning just as hot. She fit against him like they were made for each other. When he finally let her go, she looked up at him with a wicked smile that made him itch to grab for her again.

As if sensing his intention, Grace took several steps back. “I’m fairly certain that wasn’t what Moss asked you to do for him.”

“Maybe he said something about giving you a hug for him, but I started tuning him out when he decided I needed driving instructions.
Anyway, I didn’t want to disappoint an injured old man, so I winged it.”
Grace studied him for a moment. Maybe he won’t walk out on me, but even if he does, I might as well make the most of every moment we have together. She smiled and moved within reach.

Hooked on Danger

Welcome to this week’s Book Hooks blog hop. Here’s a little teaser from my newly released contemporary romantic suspense novel set in Wyoming, A Dose of Danger.
“You already have more than a full-time career. This situation will most likely be long-term, so I need to get into a rhythm with the chores and my job, and not get too dependent upon your kindness and nice muscles,” she added with a shy smile.
“So you like my muscles?”
“Don’t let it go to your head, Deputy. Remember I work with a bunch of researchers, PhDs, and marketing executives.”
He laughed as he turned and walked out the door.
Grace stood on the porch and watched until the truck’s taillights disappeared over the rise.
Just my luck, I may have met “Mr. Right,” and the timing couldn’t be more wrong.

When researcher Grace Talbot and her team discover a possible solution for weight loss they become targets of a group dedicated to controlling the multi-billion dollar a year diet-product industry. Her unsanctioned testing methods bring tragedy to the family ranch, and the attention of the local sheriff’s deputy. With her colleagues either dead, missing, or on the run she soon realizes she must trust the
deputy with her life, but can she trust him with her heart?

Adventure Inspirations – Travel and the Outside World

“Through travel I first became aware of the outside world; it was through travel that I found my own introspective way into becoming a part of it.”

- Eudora Welty, One Writer's Beginnings-
