AUGUST 2025 WRITING AND WANDERING #Newsletter
I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. I’ve been enjoying my garden, though it seems to be way behind last year, and all the fun community events happening in our small town. It’s been hot, but I’m not complaining since, in Wyoming, winter is never far away.
WRITING
Evil Under the Mountain (The Beartooth Chronicles, Book 4) has
been well received, but I’m anxious to share more about the fifth and final
novel in the series, Winter Resurgence. Until then, here’s a review for Evil
Under the Mountain. Posted by an
Amazon reader on June 28, 2025
“Another gripping story from an author who never
disappoints. This one will keep you turning those pages to find out what
happens. But the best part of McMahill's writing are the characters she
creates. It's as if I'm living the adventure right along with them and
experiencing their emotions as the story unfolds. Another winner! Don't miss
out on this exciting book.”
WANDERINGS
Late June and July were exciting months. In June we took a short road trip to Spearfish, South Dakota with a detour to Devils Tower on the way home. Spearfish is always lovely, and we enjoyed hiking the loop around the monument. In July, my husband and I spent most of the month in Alaska. We visited Denali, Wrangell St. Elias, Kenai Fjords, and Glacier Bay national parks, to name a few of the amazing places we explored. The scenery and wildlife were incredible. We haven’t been back long enough to organize our photos, so I’ll share a few of those images next month.
WHAT I’M READING AND NOTABLE NOVELS
I’ve finished reading The Drought by JG Ballard and Mothers
of a Nation: Jacob’s Wives (Remarkable Women of the Bible) by Carlene Havel
and Sharon Faucheux. The Drought was typical JG Ballard in its narration
style. I liked the book and it provided a lot to think about, but it wasn’t a
real page turner. Mothers of a Nation was a well-written story based on
biblical events. Surprisingly, I found this one to be more entertaining and
engrossing than Ballard’s dystopian tale, and I love dystopian fiction.
I’m now reading Burning Sky by John Darnton. I’ve never
read anything by this author but so far, I’m enjoying the story.
