August Dates of Note
V-J Day (“Victory In Japan Day” or “Victory
Over Japan Day”) marks the end of World War II and the cessation of fighting
against Japan. On August 14, 1945, the Japanese government notified the U.S. of its surrender. This date is the most modern recognition of V-J Day. On August
15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world which sparked celebrations
over the ending of the War. And, on September 2, 1945, a formal surrender
ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri, and President Truman
declared that day to be V-J Day.
Here are a few lighter dates to recognize in

August 3 – National Watermelon Day
August 10 – National S’mores Day
August 13 – Left Hander’s Day
