Knowledge of Things Eternal

"To stand at the edge of the sea, to sense the ebb and flow of the tides, to feel the breath of a mist moving over a great salt marsh, to watch the flight of shore birds that have swept up and down the surf lines of the continents for untold thousands of years, to see the running of the old eels and the young shad to the sea, is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal as any earthly life can be." - Rachel Carson -

Necessity of #Wilderness

“Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. A civilization which destroys what little remains of the wild, the spare, the original, is cutting itself off from its origins and betraying the principle of civilization itself.” Edward Abbey

A Foundation of Fear – Teaser Ten

Image
We’re just two days away from the release of A Foundation of Fear. Thank you to everyone who stuck with me for what I hoped was a fun little activity. You’ve survived the countdown. Here’s the tenth and final teaser before the novel is released. “Thank you for the dance. If you’ll excuse me, I need to go and freshen up.” Morgan didn’t even wait for his reply as she slipped into the crowd, effectively evading the old man and making her way out of the banquet hall. Following the signs, she walked toward the ladies’ room as quickly as she could without appearing distressed. She burst through the door and nearly collided with a woman exiting the restroom. “Sorry, excuse me,” Morgan stated. Their eyes locked. Everything about this woman had changed, yet nothing. Her eye color, hair color, hair style, and clothing were different, but the empty ruthless glare shook Morgan to her core. Morgan had no doubt who this woman was. She struggled to maintain her composure. “I for…for…for...

A Foundation of Fear – Teaser Nine of Ten

Image
If there are any cougars out there, number nine is dedicated to you. “Why didn’t you say something before now? I’ve relived that nightmare over and over a million times. You could have spared me dozens of sleepless nights.” “I was saving it for our first date,” Gordo yanked back as if she might hit him again. Devyn couldn’t help herself. She wanted to be mad, but a smile crept across her lips. Darn.  Sometimes I really wish I was ten years younger.” “I’m four years older than Gordo,” Fitz chimed in from the back seat. “Don’t even go there. I still got dibs if the sheriff thing doesn’t pan out,” Gordo warned, while briefly glowering at Fitz in the review mirror. “Yep, sorry Fitz, if I decide to go the cougar route, I’ve already found my cub.” Devyn said as she ruffled Gordo’s hair. A Foundation of Fear – Teaser Eight of Ten

Image
Pie, anyone? Let’s dig into teaser number eight. Devyn was silent for a moment. The rare tear threatened to fall. She hated all of the unfamiliar emotions he stirred in her, yet she loved feeling so alive with the possibility of a future with a wonderful man. She had convinced herself that she didn’t need anyone, but if she were being honest with herself, she needed this man. “Darn you, Harris. You are a serious complication I didn’t ask for and don’t need right now. My life was a lot simpler when I didn’t like anyone. Now I have a girlfriend who wants to take me shopping, and you make me want to do something domestic like bake a pie.” “A pie, huh? I guess I’ve gotten to you as badly as you’ve gotten to me. I’m starting to think kids aren’t that scary after all if you’re with the right woman.” “This isn’t funny. There’s nothing worse than experiencing emotions you’ve never felt before and having no idea what to do about it. Available now for Kindle pre-order. Click here .

A Foundation of Fear – Teaser Seven of Ten

Image
The countdown continues as we reach seven of ten teasers for the upcoming release of A Foundation of Fear. Sit back, grab a beverage, and enjoy. Devyn followed the woman, who she assumed was an employee by her attire, to a darkened den in the back of the house. Urban slouched in an uncomfortable-looking wingback chair with an empty glass and a half empty bottle of scotch resting on a coffee table next to his chair. He motioned for her to take a seat. ‚Wanna drink?‛ he slurred as he poured two fingers of caramel colored liquid into his glass. “No, thank you,” Devyn replied, watching the grieving man clumsily attempt to recap the bottle. She hoped he was sober enough to participate in a conversation and drunk enough for it to be an honest exchange. Even though she rehearsed what she was going to say, seeing Urban this way made her reassess her approach to the sensitive subject on her agenda. The last time she saw him he was impeccably dressed and groomed, confident, and comfortab...

A Foundation of Fear – Teaser Six of Ten

Image
Number six. A perfect passage for relaxation. Or not The man flipped the sign outside the door to read‚ “Privacy Please,” before slipping silently into the dimly lit room. The sound of the harmonic overtones from the Tibetan singing bowls reverberated throughout the serene space. Aromas from exotic oils and incense assaulted his senses, momentarily distracting him from his mission. As he shut the door, it clicked loudly. “It’s about time. I thought maybe you had forgotten about me,” the woman in the hot tub stated. “Of course not, Ms. Blair, just continue to relax while I prepare your robe,” he replied. Cucumber slices obscured her vision. He silently walked up behind her and knelt down. Placing his hands on her shoulders he began to gently knead her muscles. “Oh, that’s wonderful,” she said as she slid lower into the water. He continued to masterfully massage her shoulders until her body became limp from complete relaxation. He slowly eased her lower and lower into the ...

We’re halfway there. Are you still hanging with me? Her mind wandered back to that horrible day when she had witnessed the crime. She hadn’t cried nor felt anything but anger. The authorities ruled her mother’s death an accident. She knew differently and could have proved it, but what would it have changed, except to prolong her misery? Available now for Kindle pre-order. A Foundation of Fear – Teaser Four of Ten

Teaser four of ten touches on temptation. Want to learn more? A Foundation of Fear releases May 17, 2019 Easing herself up from the sofa, Devyn shuffled into the kitchen, opened the freezer, and pulled out a pint of half-eaten chocolate peanut butter swirl ice cream. She grabbed a spoon and dug in as she leaned back against the kitchen counter, savoring each delicious bite. She had nearly made it to the bottom when the phone rang. She groaned and thought about letting it ring, but if it was Gage, he was definitely worth an interruption in her ice cream eating.  “Hello.” “What are you up to?” His deep voice eased over her like a warm caress. She smiled and placed the ice cream carton in the kitchen sink. “I’d love to relay something exciting or noteworthy, but the truth of the matter is that I’m standing here in my kitchen eating ice cream out of the container. What are you doing?” He laughed. The sound made her weak in the knees. She didn’t know why he had that eff...
