A Tale of Two Series

When I write a series, I focus on a different topic in each novel while building on the previous book. With this method, each novel can be read as a stand-alone, but a deeper connection with the recurring characters builds if read in order. In the Risky Research series, the first novel, A Dose of Danger, unveils the discovery of a potential miracle weight-loss drug. The suspense builds when those who want to steal the formula and those who want to keep it off the market collide. The second focuses on artificial sweeteners, the third on the political side of the diet and nutrition industries, and in book four the deadly criminal consortium begins to unravel and the chase is on. Note: there are also two free prequels for this series to download.

The Beartooth Chronicles
conforms to a similar pattern, following the lives of Ashley and Caleb as they confront a myriad of threats to their survival. In book 1, Refuge from the World, they endure tragedy and grief and learn about love. They encounter predators for the first time and face the consequences of the government’s geoengineering program. In book 2, deadly predators invade their sanctuary, their closest neighbor falls under the rule of a ruthless extremist faction, they encounter a group of desperate geologists fleeing a nation unraveling, and the passage of the Continuity in Crisis Bill pushes the country toward the brink of civil war. In the third novel, violent outsiders reach the community for the first time, while Beartooth gains a new member and loses another. In book four, a small group embark on a suicide mission to reduce the threat from their deadly neighbor, an encounter with a fierce predator sets the community on edge, and nature unleashes its fury. The fifth and final novel in the series has more danger, suspense, action, and drama. The human and animal predators, along with the return of winter forces Beartooth’s residents to step up and fight for the survival of their community.
