Adventures with D.V. Stone

 Adventures with D. V. Stone . . .

To me, life is an adventure. It used to be much more exciting. I’ve been a spelunker, rappelled off the side of a three-story building, and climbed many trees. Adventure always calls, and I’ll still push as far as my breathing allows.

First off, I’m anxiously looking forward to a new stage in life. Retirement is in May. I have a countdown on my phone that tells me how many days, hours, minutes, seconds. If I want, I can see how many breaths or heartbeats. It doesn’t mean I’ll be sitting back and not working. The day I leave work, Pete will have 2Hoots, my 5th Wheel, ready and hitched to head to Tampa for the Ignite Your Imagination Conference hosted by Florida West Coast Writers, Inc.

Camping (or glamping), cooking, reading. I love history. We’ve already been happily traveling from Niagara Falls, NY, to Fort Meyers, Florida, and many places in between. There’s so much to see and do. This year on our agenda after Tampa is Wisconsin, Vermont, and Seneca Falls, NY, which is the inspiration for Bedford Falls in It’s a Wonderful Life. We’ll also spend some time antiquing in Lancaster, PA, and visiting some of our local favorites in NJ and PA.

One of my old-time favorites was On the Road with Charles Kuralt. He would take you to the backroads of America. Well, Charles, your spirit lives on in me.

How about you? What grand adventures have you either been on or are looking forward to? Maybe we’ll meet each other in a campground, rest area, or some small hamlet in Somewhere America.

D.V. Stone was born in Brooklyn. She has moved around a bit and even lived for a time on a dairy farm in Minnesota before moving back east. Throughout her wandering, she always considered herself a Jersey Girl. She met and married the love of her life, Pete—a lifelong Jersey Man, and moved this time to Sussex County.  They live with Hali, a mixed breed from the local shelter, and their cat Baby.

D.V.’s career path varied from working with the disabled to become a volunteer EMT, which in turn led to working in hospital emergency rooms and then in a women’s state prison. After a few years, she took a break from medicine and became the owner of Heavenly Brew, a specialty coffee shop in Sparta, NJ, and a small restaurant in Lafayette. Life handed some setbacks, and she ended up back in the medical field, but this time in a veterinary emergency hospital.

D. V. Stone is a multi-genre author whose work includes Felice, Shield-Mates of Dar, Agent Sam Carter and the Mystery at Branch Lake, Rock House Grill, and Rainbow Sprinkles. She also hosts two weekly blogs, “Welcome to the Campfire” and “A Peek Through the Window.” You can find her at:
