August Dates of Note

V-J Day (“Victory In Japan Day” or “Victory Over Japan Day”) marks the end of World War II and the cessation of fighting against Japan. On August 14, 1945, the Japanese government notified the U.S. of its surrender. This date is the most modern recognition of V-J Day. On August 15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world which sparked celebrations over the ending of the War. And, on September 2, 1945, a formal surrender ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri, and President Truman declared that day to be V-J Day.   Here are a few lighter dates to recognize in August. August 3 – National Watermelon Day August 10 – National S’mores Day August 13 – Left Hander’s Day

One Second to Spare

Like many in America, I’ve been reading more books and watching more on television and DVD over the past month or so. I love action adventure and suspense, but two movies hit one of my pet-peeve buttons recently. In both, the world was saved with one second to spare. I don’t know why that has always bugged me, but it does. Is it necessary to cut it that close? Wouldn’t a minute before world annihilation be sufficient for suspense? Feel free to chime in. If readers like the “one-second to detonation” scenario, I’ll consider shaving a few seconds off my hero/heroine’s cushion for success.

The release date hasn’t been set yet, but stayed tuned. I’m very excited about this installment in the series because the story takes the reader to South America on an adventure reminiscent of some of my earlier work. I’ve enjoyed writing a romantic suspense crime series, but my first love has always been exotic adventure. A Measure of Madness has it all. Happy Independence Day

The fourth of July is the day we celebrate our nation’s birthday. Even though it has become a day of fun, fireworks, and celebration, we should never forget that we are able to enjoy the benefits of freedom because of the sacrifices and foresight of our founding fathers to establish a democracy that has made America the greatest country on earth. Lately, we have seen our constitution and our democracy under attack. We must stay strong and most importantly, UNITED. We have to resist the urge to allow media and politicians to pit citizen against citizen, especially during this extremely trying and difficult year. Reflect on the reason for the holiday and be safe and try to love one another or at least exercise empathy and caring to your fellow Americans.
