“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste it, to experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” Eleanor Roosevelt

Thank You to All Who Serve

Image
Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday in May each year. Memorial Day is dedicated to the service men and women who gave their lives for freedom and country. It is also a time to honor those currently serving and their families, and to remember loved ones who have passed away. This year, I think it is appropriate to also honor those who have been on the frontlines of the pandemic, risking their lives for all of us. THANK YOU!

Wilderness is Vital to Life

“Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. Happy Mother’s Day

Image
Here’s wishing my mother and all mothers a happy Mother’s Day. The first Mother’s Day was in Philadelphia in 1908, so this is a strong and long-standing tradition. Don’t forget to let your mom know just how important she is on this special day.

Same Crystal Skulls Different Story

Image
We recently finished watching all of the Indiana Jones movies in order. The last movie , Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull , was entertaining but it has always been my least favorite of the series for several reasons. First, I’m not a huge fan of alien stuff. Second was its timing.  I had finished Shrouded in Secrets and had just started shopping the manuscript around to publishers when I saw the promo for the movie. I was devastated. I quit sending the manuscript out and shelved it until many years later. When I mentioned it to my publisher, who had published Marked in Mexico, she wanted to see it. Thankfully, it was accepted and published.  Even though my novel was set in current times rather than the 1930’s, has nothing to do with aliens, and has very little else in common with the movie, it is based on the same thirteen legendary crystal skulls. I’ve always been very proud of the novel. It is the action-packed archeological thriller I dreamed of wri...

Cinco de Mayo

Image
The roots of Cinco de Mayo are in the Mexican Army defeat of the French army in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, which signified a defeat of European colonial power and a victory for the Mexican People. However, Cinco de Mayo is not the celebration of Mexican independence which is celebrated on September 16, but rather it has come to signify Hispanic and Mexican pride and is a time to celebrate its rich culture.
