Hooked on Danger and Forbidden Love

MFRW Authors Blog

Welcome to this week’s Book Hooks blog hop. I hope you enjoy this eight-sentence teaser from my dystopian adventure romance novel, Deadly Exodus (now only $0.99). Click on another great writer in the Linky List below to check out more book hooks.

Excerpt:

The sound of boots pounding overhead took Nyla’s breath away. The women left the bridge and scrambled down the bank. Once they reached the creek bed and turned the light under the bridge, it would be all over. Nyla wondered if Ethan and Jared would be executed on the spot or if they would at least be taken back to stand trial. The thought of losing Ethan terrified her. She slipped out from behind him and positioned her body in front of his. He tried to push her back, but she refused to budge. If they were going shoot Ethan, they would have to go through her.

Blurb:

Their love is forbidden…their lives in danger…

Trapped in a dystopian America where men are being exterminated and relationships are forbidden, Nyla is determined to change the course of her future and protect Ethan. Fleeing means abandoning her grandmother and imprisoned mother, but Nyla and her friends will do anything to escape an authoritarian government which has stolen their freedom and prohibits personal expression of any kind.

Desperate and dreaming of a new life, the group makes a run for the Mexican border through the inhospitable Big Bend region of Texas. Persistent patrols track and corner them, while a vast and desolate landscape inhabited by brazen predators tests their ability to survive.

Will they live to realize their dreams of a new life and a chance at love?

Adventure Scrapbook - Ayuthaya Thailand

Ayuthaya, Thailand served as the Siamese royal capitol and was one of Asia’s greatest, most powerful cities during the 13th and 14th centuries. Today, all that remains of this once thriving city of a million people, are fascinating ruins and amazing sculptures. There were very few other visitors when we toured the site, which made the experience all the more awe-inspiring and powerful.

Contemporary Romance - Now And Forever

Contemporary Romance authors, Terri Mann and Kate Lane have recently released their novel, Now and Forever.  Please read on for more on this novel and its authors.

Nothing could destroy their love, except the truth…

Separated by circumstance and distance, former high school sweethearts Lindy and TJ find their lives and passions once again entwined. For the past twelve years, each lived and worked in separate worlds, but yet held each other close in their hearts, one never sure what the other was feeling. The sudden and cruel death of their dear friend, Jack, brings them back together in Clarkson Grove, where their love had blossomed so many years before. Each is breathless at the thought of reuniting, hoping against hope that they can begin again. Can the love of their youth truly grow into an adult, lasting relationship or are their feelings just bittersweet memories of “the one who got away?” After so much time apart, do they still hold the same, small town values? How will they handle disagreements and disappointments along with extended family strife? Is each free to resume the relationship they once had, or have commitments to others been made, commitments that may even include a child?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Terri Mann honed her professional writing skills for many years as a copywriter for business entities and as a grant writer for social services agencies and arts organizations.  She also found success in writing personal essays, which were published locally and nationally.  Since childhood, books have been an integral part of Terri’s life.  She still remembers the magic of fairytales and the princes and princesses who brought these tales to life, especially stories from one of her favorite books, East of the Sun and West of the Moon.   Now and Forever is Terri’s first romance novel. She lives in Lakewood Ohio, on the shores of Lake Erie, where she finds inspiration in sunsets and moonrises, and hopes to write other romance novels about heroes and heroines in search of love and happily-ever-after endings.

Kate Lane has spent her life in the northern Ohio area, near the shores of Lake Erie. Kate's enjoyment in reading is lifelong, a hobby encouraged by her mother. Movies became an integral part of her life as well, and Kate loves to compare the transition from book to film. Her most preferred movie genre are the dramas and mysteries from the '30s/'40s, though she can also be found entrenched in '50s scifi/monster offerings, with a healthy dose of vampires thrown in for good measure. With plots and characters always on her mind, Kate decided that writing would be the natural conclusion of her ever present passion for romance and adventure!

Adventure Scrapbook – Paradise in the Desert –Big Bend

One of my favorite places in Big Bend National Park is the Hot Springs Historic District. It’s an idyllic spot along the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River, which was once used as a health spa and as a meeting place for people from both sides of the river. There are several preserved buildings and a magnificent giant palm fanning out over the rugged landscape. I dubbed it the, “tropical paradise in the desert,” in Deadly Exodus and identified it as the place the characters would attempt their daring border/river crossing into Mexico in their desperate run for freedom.

Adventure Scrapbook – Early Mountain Memories

Many of my earliest memories are of riding my pony in the mountains of Wyoming.  It didn’t take long before I graduated to a horse, since it was a little difficult to keep up with the adults, despite my pony’s determination. I doubt I appreciated it at the time, but these early exploits provided some serious quality family bonding, and fueled my life-long sense of adventure.

Worth Her Weight In Gold

I would like to introduce historical romance author, Lynn Lovegreen. Lynn grew up in Alaska and taught English for 20 years before retiring to make more time for writing. When not writing, she loves to spend time with family and friends, read, travel, and shoot at targets with her cowboy action shooting club, the Alaska 49ers. Her young adult historical romances are set in the Alaska Gold Rush, a great time for drama, romance, and independent characters who made their own way in the world. For more on Lynn and her work, please visit her website at www.lynnlovegreen.com. You can also find her on Facebook and Pinterest.
Lynn’s latest novel, Worth Her Weight In Gold, was recently release by Prism Book Group. This exciting new novella is available directly from the publisher or from major on-line book retailers in e-book for just $0.99.

Adventure Boxed Set Sneak Peek

Welcome to Sneak Peak Sunday for April 6, 2014. Sneak Peek Sunday is a weekly blog hop that allows readers to sample six paragraphs of an author’s novel. This week I may be stretching the rules a bit. A Kindle Boxed Set of three of my novels was recently released, so instead of providing a six-paragraph sneak peek at one novel, I’m sharing two paragraphs from each of the three novels included in the Boxed Set, Marked In Mexico (54 Amazon reviews averaging 4.4), Big Horn Storm (21 Amazon reviews averaging 4.6), and Deadly Exodus (12 Amazon reviews averaging 4.9), along with blurbs. The set is available on Amazon for one low price of just $3.99.

Marked In Mexico

Under any other circumstance the words, “kill another person,” at the end of a sentence would have terrified her, but the way Jack said it only made her heart ache. He had killed before, but it clearly hadn’t been easy and he obviously hadn’t gotten over it.

Jessica took his hands in hers and turned them over. They were large and rough. He’d carried no weapon, so he obviously could have killed the man with his bare hands. Whenever he touched her, he was so gentle she just couldn’t believe it was possible. Though he had done nothing but try to protect Megan and her, there was clearly much more to Jack than he had shared and she wasn’t sure she wanted to know the rest of his story, but felt the need to truly understand his pain.

Blurb

When hostages are taken at one of Mexico’s most popular Mayan ruins an idyllic Caribbean vacation turns deadly. The kidnappers believe the abduction will be a simple way to negotiate the release of a colleague from a Texas prison, but matters become complicated and the stakes much higher when they realize one of their hostages is the daughter of a powerful U.S. Senator and another is an ex-Army Ranger who has no intention of playing by the rules.

Big Horn Storm

Her eyes darted from man to man. She scanned the area and noted that she was still very close to the edge of the ravine. Niki could feel the big horse quiver beneath her and tense, ready to spring at the slightest provocation. She gripped Storm’s sides with her legs and grasped the saddle horn. One man pulled a pistol out of its holster. She doubted he intended to shoot her yet—instant death would be too quick, easy, and preferable. Niki feared he planned to take out her only mode of escape. She couldn’t allow her beloved horse to be shot at point blank range, but most importantly, she couldn’t be delayed too long or she doubted her grandfather would survive.

With a prayer and a swift kick, Niki informed Storm it was time to run for their lives. The horse sensed the danger and cleared the edge of the ravine before the men could react. Niki held on as tight as she could and leaned back to help the horse keep his balance as he lunged down the slope. Rocks dislodged under the fury of his churning hooves as he barreled down the embankment.

Blurb

A too-close-to-home military crisis, a traumatic accident, and a terrifying bear encounter high in the mountains—to expect help is a delusion no one can afford if they hope to survive. Hunted and pushed higher into the backcountry, and with a storm brewing in the Big Horns, can the rugged rancher and the sheepherder’s granddaughter endure the wrath of ruthless invaders, conquer the forces of nature, and rekindle lost love?

Deadly Exodus

Nyla watched as Ethan quickly extracted a knife from his pocket and secured the blade to the end of the stick, making a spear. Just as he finished wrapping the string and tying it off, Nyla spotted the two shapes re-emerging from the shadows, this time from behind.

“Behind us,” she hissed as the group whirled around to meet their enemy.
